NEWS: Use the Present to Predict Your Home Support Future

The national Commonwealth Health Support Programme (CHSP) has brought in a new era of service provision, standards and reporting. In a complex and ever-changing environment like aged care where future compliance requirements are unknown, being able to predict the future would be amazing! Since that is not always possible, utilising the data that you have to help you plan, grow or develop your business, no matter what the requirements, is vital.

From its origins as local, predominantly council-based and government-funded services, the national Commonwealth Health Support Programme (CHSP) has brought in a new era of service provision, standards and reporting, which will be applicable to all states in Australia.

CHSP is the entry level to the national aged care system and is currently funded under an array of services brought together from a variety of existing programs. As these services become more unified and streamlined, the government has introduced the requirement to report services to DSS Data Exchange (DEX), in stages. The first stage was the reporting of basic client and service information. The next stage, as of this year, is the requirement to report client contributions. 

As the government increases its reporting requirements, it will begin to get a picture of client profiles, what services are in-demand and being delivered and what consumers are paying – important information that was previously not available. This information may well be used to develop the single framework when the home support programme eventually merges with home care, creating a unified at-home aged care program.

In a complex and ever-changing environment like aged care where future compliance requirements are unknown, being able to predict the future would be amazing! Since that is not always possible, utilising the data that you have now to help you plan, grow or develop your business, no matter what the requirements, is vital. To help you achieve this, you need to have good systems and procedures in place to manage your home support business. 

The system you consider should have these features as a minimum requirement:
•    Automatically uploads to DEX
•    Generates compliant agreements
•    Simple management of individual and group activities
•    Tracks delivery of units against contract allocations
•    Reports on historical and forecast data
